Scott Kelby speaks up for iPad
And to be honest with you, he has some valid points.
Q. After the iPad was introduced, most analyists greatly upped their predictions for how many million units Apple will sell in the iPad’s first year. Do they know something we don’t know? A. Yup. They know that the iPad isn’t for everyone, just like the iPhone isn’t for everyone, but they also know there are enough people who, when they see...

How scams operate in Clubsnap
I saw some chap on Clubsnap selling an item for a very good price and thought it might be a steal. However, a second look at his post (i was viewing on the phone just now) reminded me of something that a seller once warned me of - Scams in Clubsnap.
I wanted to blog about this since a while back but it constantly slipped out of my mind.
Now that such possible scams have surfaced again, i feel...

FYP work-in-progress
I don’t normally put up my FYP photos for people to see, especially during work-in-progress.
But i like this shot and figured it would be great to share it.
But first, a shameless picture of myself working on the shot.
And now for the shot.
What do you think?

Return of bythewei's speedlites
I have not been shooting much with speedlites lately. But since the drastic recent events, they have become a cheaper alternative to monoblocs. But not using monoblocs does not necessary mean lousier photos. End of the day, it really is about how you modify your lights and use them to the fullest potential.
So here’s an example of using speedlites for a simple shoot.
I have always wanted...

Questions about strobes
Once in a while i do offer buying advices for the lost souls of photography. Wait.. make that all the time. So now, i have decided to publish some questions once in a while and hopefully i can be of your help. (It also helps that i can refer future souls here instead of typing the same replies :P )
Q:
Hi Wei Li Need you advise. Myself and XXX are thinking of buying cheap outdoor battery...
Lame thread titles from Clubsnap
Honestly one area where us photographers lack in creativity is names of forum thread titles. This is especially so wrt Clubsnap and most are from TFCD photoshoot thread and portraits thread..
Here’s some for laugh:
1. HOT Jasmine & SEXY Kim
remarks: If i am anymore hungrier, i would read it as hot jasmine tea and sexy kimchi.. yum
2. Afternoon lunch Sexy Fashion with Jingjing

My awesome Xmas wishlist
See! I ain’t too greedy at all…
1. B+W 77 MRC UV filter (2nd hand ones will do)
2. Kingston 133x 16Gb CF cards (cheapest around)

My list of best cameras and other stuff
I wouldn’t say that i handled all the DSLRs in the market today but would go as far as to say that i handled most of them before. Secondly, I’ve handled enough cameras while selling them at IT shows to know what are some of their flaws.
Here’s my ranking, in terms of best grip and handling.
Best Grip:
1. Sony Alpha 900 (and 850)
2. Canon 5D and xxD series
3. Nikon Dxxx...

Client from Hell
Since I’m at it, i might as well take some time to share my personal encounters with clients from Hell.
I was fairly new to the business back then and was looking for some jobs.
There was this design firm which needed people to photograph watches, the simple straight-on kind but needed lots of lighting adjustment.
Client: I want you to photograph about 50 watches at one go for me each...
